Change is Inevitable

This year, I've been working full time on a DevOps team. Not something I had considered doing before, but it was an interesting side of the IT world I hadn't seen. I was a "consultant" with a one-year contract, and a very low chance of staying on after the contract ended. So, I've been looking around for a future job, but nothing so far. Wouldn't want to have this job end, have no prospects, and a baby on the way.

Well, yesterday I received an email explaining that the company is starting an early "ramp-down" of contracts to save some money this year. Mine was one of the affected contracts. On October 11th, my employment will end about 3 months earlier than expected. Obviously, I will spend the next two weeks job hunting, as I have been, but perhaps with more pressure on me to find something.

I once fantasized that I could make even a minor job out of streaming, but this full time job didn't really leave time to experiment with that. It would sure be nice to keep working from home once the baby is here, so I can be around. I've contemplated doubling-down on streaming as of the 11th, at least temporarily. Maybe it turns into something, more probably it doesn't. Ironically, the very next day, October 12th, is our next all day board game stream with Bryan. How appropriate. I'm not naive enough to think streaming more will magically help my financial situation, but it is something I enjoy doing, so I might as well do more of it while I have the availability.

It's not an ideal situation I find myself in, but I will not be discouraged.
